Lake Garda is one of the most popular wedding destinations in northern Italy
Lake Garda is one of the most popular destinations in Italy for weddings and holidays. Lake Garda in northern Italy offers many exciting water activities and city tours. With an area of 369.98 km, the lake is located in the three regions of Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige. It is the largest lake in Italy and is well-known for its numerous small towns and villages. The area also offers a variety of restaurants and famous wine regions located close to the lake. On the south of Desenzano del Garda lies the Lugana wine region, east of the lake are the areas of Bardolino and Soave wine regions, as well as the Valpolicella area.
Our favourite places: Malcesine, Torbole & Riva del Garda
Malcesine on the eastern shore of Lake Garda is one of our favourite places. The surrounding mountains and the shores of Lake Garda offer a variety of scenic contrasts that few places on Lake Garda can offer. For unforgettable civil weddings, we recommend the Scaliger Castle, which offers a perfect setting for wonderful wedding ceremonies on Lake Garda.
The quaint village of Torbole, nestled on the northern shore between Monte Baldo in the east and Sarca River in the north, is particularly popular among fans of windsurfing and sailing. In Torbole, there is every kind of water sport activity to please all tastes. But there is also mountaineering tours and hikes in the mountains. The idyllic fishing village with its small harbour invites you to enjoy the sunshine with an aperitif in your hand. No wonder Goethe was so inspired by the landscape here. Torbole also belongs to the district of Nago. This area can be reached via a rocky hill, which provides an exceptional view of the entire Lake Garda. If you like castles and fortresses, you should visit the ruins of Penede Castle and the Austro-Hungarian fortifications of Nago. Both are connected by a panoramic walking trail and are open to public.
Some municipalities on Lake Garda, such as Lazise, offer the possibility for a civil wedding in villas or restaurants. After the civil ceremony in the garden of the villa is over, an Italian aperitif follows with the wedding dinner and the party. This has to be the ultimate wedding destination abroad.
A wedding and active holiday in one
For wedding couples, Lake Garda offers the complete wedding and active holiday package. Lake Garda has a mild climate until October. If you are looking for the most charming and quaint fishing villages for your wedding, you will find it in a quiet and authentic place within 28 km away from town. The sea promenade is the perfect place for capturing unique wedding photos. There are also many luxury hotels for dreamy wedding receptions.
Aside from Torbole, our other favourite place is Riva del Garda, considered as the capital of northern Lake Garda. This is where everyone gets their money’s worth. The popular and fashionable holiday resort of Riva is located on the narrow northern edge of the lake. This is like no other place. You’ll find an extraordinary mix of Italian and Tyrolean inspirations. It’s also a great place for surfing and mountain climbing enthusiasts. The vast beaches along the lake also attract sun lovers as well as fans of water sports. Riva del Garda is larger than Torbole, but has just as much charm. For small weddings of up to 50 guests, restaurants and rustic trattorias provide the perfect setting for any budget.
